Inspiration Weekender: Local Craft Breweries

Beer is to Colorado what wine is to France, and we like our brews to be fresh, local, and handcrafted. Fortunately, there are many great places to enjoy a great brew near Inspiration. Here are our top picks.

Elk Mountain Brewing. Tom and Marcia Bell opened this microbrewery in 2009 in the industrial area of Parker. With 20 years of experience as a brewer, Ted specializes in German style beers with a twist. For nondrinkers, there’s homemade root beer and orange soda. Whether at the bar or on the patio, visitors enjoy games and a rolling calendar of food trucks. www.elkmountainbrewing.com

Barnett & Son Brewing Co. Andrew Barnett, an avid home brewer with many years of experience, opened this microbrewery in 2013. After impressing many friends with his “true to the style” brews, especially ale styles, he finally answered their suggestions of “Why don’t you go pro?” This popular spot also offers a rotating selection of food trucks. www.barnettandsonbrewing.com

20 Mile Tap House. We’re partial to this place because the name reminds us of the 20-mile views that residents enjoy at Inspiration. It’s also a really great place, with 18 taps pouring Colorado beers, live music and 18 big-screen TVs. www.20miletaphouse.com
