How the Heatheringtons Hilltop
Meet Rea and Penny Heatherington (if you don’t know them already). They’re among the first Hilltop residents, and the very definition of what we mean when we say we’re a community for “active adults.”
On any given day, you might find the couple out for a long walk, at a community event or meeting friends for happy hour. Rea is part of the cycling club, the president of “Guys’ Night Out,” and a member of the social committee. And while the pandemic kept Penny finding herself at home a little more, she used that time to take drawing and french classes online. As if that doesn’t keep them busy enough, now that restrictions have been lifted and the world has opened up, you’ll see the Heatheringtons on the trail system appreciating the art installations. On the bocce courts. Taking in the views at the Hilltop Club. Enjoying live music at the Summer Concert Series. And beyond—they’ve been to Italy and The Broadmoor with a large group of Hilltop friends, and are planning a trip to Santa Fe with their neighbors. (We reaaallly hope Rea and Penny have a good daily planner to keep track of all their plans, because their social calendar is consistently full.)
Of course, the Heatheringtons are quick to point out that their favorite thing here isn’t necessarily how they spend their time. It’s the people they get to spend it with—other residents at the same age and stage in life. As Penny says, “We’ve been able to make some forever friends here at Hilltop.” They even mentioned that they met more people within one year of living at Hilltop than they did living in Highlands Ranch for over a decade—a sentiment we’ve heard from other residents, too. “It takes an hour to go out and get the mail because you’ll run into someone you know.” Sounds like a perfect day to us!
